Značka Under Armour, zabývající se sportovním oblečením, vznikla roku 1996 ve Spojených státech amerických. Byla založena Kevinem Plankem, v té době 23 letým hráčem amerického fotbalu na Univerzitě v Marylandu, který byl otrávený tím, že si neustále musí vyměňovat zpocené triko, které nosil pod dresem. Zaznamenal však, že jeho kompresní šortky během tréninku i zápasu zůstávaly suché. To ho inspirovalo k vytvoření stejně fungujících sportovních triček. Po ukončení studia na univerzitě vyvinul svůj první prototyp takto fungujícího trika. Vše tedy začalo jednoduchým plánem dělat špičková trička, která budou kompresní a zároveň budou odvádět nepříjemný pot, místo aby jej nasávala, trička, která budou pomáhat tělu regulovat tělesnou teplotu a zvyšovat výkon.
